The Cottage
The minute I step out of the car and stretch after the long drive, I smell the fresh air and scent of the tall pine trees in the distance. As I walk up the long drive way to the wooden porch, my boots hit the snow; every step I take it makes a loud crunching noise. As the cool wind hits my face, my eyes start to water. All I can hear is the snow crumbling beneath my feet. If you listen closely you can hear the faint sound of snowmobiles, far. As I walk into the door of the cold sun room, and open the door to the living room the windows fog up, and you can’t see out of them. I head straight for the closet. I open the door and the smell of cedar filled my lungs. I grab my snow pants and put them on, and walk over to get my helmet. As I walk my legs rub against each other making a “swoosh” sound. I put my helmet on and instantly I felt like my lungs were blocked by a wooden wall. I go back outside to the barn that I have been keeping my snowmobiles in for 12 years. My dad called my name, and his words echoed the large barn. He started the sled after two long hard pulls. The engine roared and was extra loud since we were still in the barn. I get on, and take off. I was going so fast that I could feel the wind hitting my body. I raced my sister too the field where we usually play around. And I hurry too the top of the hill. We raced down the freshly snowed on pathway, and head down the hill too the bowl where we can jump. As I got too the bowl I went full force for the jump. As im in the air I feel as if im flying and everything is in slow motion. After riding for at least three hours, we get back too the cottage. As I walk inside you could smell the hot chocolate my grandma had waiting for us on the wooden table. Going too grayling was my favorite thing to do, ever since we sold the cottage I’ve missed it like crazy. I use to go here every winter and summer; I felt as if I could get away from everything else, and just relax.
